The Harris County Flood Control District realizes that due to the size of our projects and their location within the landscape, opportunities exist to provide more than just a standard stormwater detention basin. Due to the fact that our detention basins are only in use during storm events, it is important to provide other benefits when the sun is shining. The District has made great efforts to provide wildlife habitat, restore native vegetation, and create mini-ecosystems within our projects with varying degrees of habitat enhancement and recreational opportunities. The presentation will discuss various environmental enhancements that are part of recent and on-going capital improvement projects.
