While Jointed Reinforced Concrete Pavements (JRCP) have largely been abandoned by most agencies across the nation, there are several that continue to utilize JRCP in Texas. The purpose of using reinforcing steel in jointed concrete pavement was to allow larger joint spacing and to hold cracks that do form, close together. Most JRCP details being used by agencies use the same short joint spacing as in conventional Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (JPCP). This presentation discusses the current practice and why agencies should update their specifications and details.
