Composite Access Products

Chad Nunnery grew up in the Berkshires of Massachusetts and started working in his father’s composite raw material production company, Bulk Molding Compounds Inc (BMCI), during high school and college summer vacations. Chad graduated in 1994 from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH with Engineering and Chemistry degrees, and directly after started his full-time composites manufacturing career. He spent most of his career in Latin American countries starting foreign composite formulating and compounding operations in Mexico City, Ciudad Juarez and Brazil. After 6 years residing in Mexico City with his family, Chad witnessed composites being molded into manhole covers internationally primarily for theft prevention. He recognized that composites would solve many other problems like inflow, SSOs, corrosion, weight, smart manhole data transmission, asset management, install efficiency, and environmental impact. In 2015, Chad formed Composite Access Products (CAP), located in McAllen, TX, to mold composite manhole cover assemblies and related products. CAP is the first US compression molder of traffic-rated composite manhole covers, has the only state DOT approval letter for US composite manhole covers used “within the roadway”, and has CAP assemblies installed in over 400 municipalities (in 45 states) within just four years since production started. In October of 2020, CAP was honored with the Award for Composites Excellence (ACE) from the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA).
