Marshall B. Addison, Ph.D., P.E.

Bio

Dr. Addison has over 45 years of Texas Professional Engineering experience in geotechnical issues. The past 34 years he has been self-employed. The last 25 years he has specialized primarily in forensic geotechnical evaluations and investigations. He has authored over 10 peer reviewed publications. He taught in the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Texas at Arlington for 7 years beginning in the early 90s. His field of expertise centers around forensic geotechnical matters, determination of causation and conceptual remediation schemes for geotechnical related failures and substandard performance, evaluation of earth and material performance before and after construction from changing soil moisture regimes, interaction of soils and foundations, foundation performance evaluation, chemical treatments to modify soils for foundations and determination of effects vegetation has on foundation systems.


Dr. Addison has been active in the Geo Institute’s Shallow Foundations committee for 26 years, he was a past chair of the Texas Section ASCE Geo Institute committee, he was a member of the Evaluation and Repair of Residential Foundation subcommittee from 1999 through 2023 and was chair of that committee for several years during production of version 2 of the Guidelines for the Evaluation and Repair of Residential Foundations document. He is currently a member of the Residential Foundation Steering Council.


Dr. Addison has three adult daughters and four grandchildren that keep him busy along with 3 decades of volunteering in his church’s preschool ministry.
