Bio
Mustafa Abdul Haque is a dual-degree undergraduate at Southern Methodist University (SMU), pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a B.A. in Public Policy & Economics with minors in Mechanical and Environmental Engineering. His academic and research interests lie at the intersection of infrastructure, equity, sustainability, and governance.
As an undergraduate research assistant at SMU, Mustafa contributed to policy analysis on transportation equity and road safety, notably evaluating local implementations of the Vision Zero framework in North Central Texas. His work has involved qualitative content analysis of federal grant applications, public records requests, and the development of equity-centered infrastructure evaluation frameworks. He has presented his findings at multiple venues, including Texas CECON and the GDPC Water Policy Summit.
Mustafa has also interned with the U.S. Department of State’s Overseas Building Operations, where he analyzed international construction performance data, and with civil engineering firms on transportation, drainage, and urban design projects. His broader portfolio includes nationally awarded writing on environmental policy and sustainability, grassroots advocacy, and contributions to open knowledge as a Wikipedia contributor.
Driven by a passion for infrastructure justice and public service, Mustafa aims to integrate civil engineering innovation with inclusive policymaking to foster more equitable, sustainable, and data-informed communities.
