Building Resilient Roads: Leveraging Emerging Pavement Maintenance Technologies to Improve Road Quality and Performance

Facing a multi-billion-dollar road maintenance backlog, municipalities are increasingly challenged to do more with less. Traditional methods often focus on short-term repairs rather than prioritizing long-term preservation and resilience, leading to frequent maintenance cycles and strained budgets. This session will explore how innovative pavement technologies are breaking through these barriers, enabling longer-lasting and more resilient roads and more efficient use of public funds. By adopting these technologies, municipalities can potentially save almost $150k over the road’s lifespan, significantly reducing their maintenance costs.

Attendees will learn how emerging solutions, like automated application equipment, such as electric vehicles, and data-driven road performance monitoring, can improve application consistency and extend pavement life. The presentation will include examples of municipalities successfully adopting preservation-focused approaches that reduce costs while enhancing road quality and longevity. Participants will gain practical strategies to transition from reactive repairs to proactive maintenance, ultimately improving operational efficiency and community satisfaction.
