As directed by the Regional Transportation Council, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is overseeing the early planning efforts for a future high-speed transportation service between Dallas and Fort Worth. This future service will not only enhance the current transportation options within the DFW region, but it will also serve as the high-speed connection between other future high-speed transportation projects within the state such as the Dallas to Houston High-Speed Rail project and a future service between Fort Worth and south Texas. Having completed Phase 1 of the study over the past 2 years, which encompassed an alternatives analysis of various alignments between Dallas and Fort Worth as well as different high-speed modes, the project team comprised of NCTCOG staff and prime consultant HNTB have initiated Phase 2 of the project which is expected to last another 2 years. Phase 2 will entail conceptual and preliminary engineering designs to support the environmental documentation required during the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review at the federal level; this NEPA documentation and review will also occur during Phase 2.
