Stormwater Drainage: No Longer the Forgotten Infrastructure Asset

The consensus nationwide is that our infrastructure is deteriorating more rapidly that we are able to fix the problems or expand/enhance the assets. Generally, roads and bridges have been the focus for a host of legitimate reasons. Historically, existing stormwater drainage has only been reviewed when the aforementioned components are slated for improvement. Asset management is gaining traction and is now including stormwater drainage pipe due to the realization that this key asset has been neglected for far too long. The 2021 ASCE report card rated stormwater a D. This discussion will overview infrastructure asset management trends at the federal and regional levels in stormwater drainage and provide tools for evaluation, design, construction, and maintenance. Target Audience: Public and private owners and designer of stormwater drainage pipe infrastructure: Learning objective: Enhance the understanding of key aspects of drainage design and inspection and how they play roles in long-term performance.
