The Limitations of the PVR Method to Address Expansive Clay Soils

The PVR method has been used for decades in Texas to estimate vertical movement in expansive clay soils. The original development of the method was used on a limited set of data. It is currently being used to estimate the amount of non-expansive material needed to limit the vertical displacement due to expansive clay soils. This presentation provides an overview of the PVR method, it’s origins, limitations, and common misunderstandings by local agencies, owners and engineers.
