The Story of the July 4th Guadalupe River Flood Event

In the early morning of July 4, 2025 an extreme rainfall event caused a rapid rise in water along the South Fork Guadalupe River. The resulting flood wave proceeded down the South Fork and Guadalupe Rivers, through the towns and cities of Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point and eventually onto Comfort leaving devastation in its wake. In the following days and weeks, Kerr County was on the frontline of the emergency response and is now in the process of the rebuilding effort. We’re going to tell the story of the event from the floodplain management and technical engineering perspectives. This will include the hydrologic and hydraulic context of the event, emergency response modeling and efforts, and lessons learned about responding to flood disasters.
