Bio

Dr. V. Vinay Kumar works as a Technical Manager – Pavements at Huesker Inc. Dr. Kumar holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Visveswaraya Technological University (VTU), a master’s in transportation systems engineering from National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) Surathkal, and a PhD focused on transportation geotechnics and geosynthetics in roadways from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad. Dr. Kumar held various research and teaching positions in India and Mauritius between 2012 and 2019, before relocating to the US. Since then, Dr. Kumar worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow with Dr. Jorge Zornberg at the University of Texas at Austin for about 5 years before assuming his current position with Huesker Inc.
Dr. Kumar has over a decade’s experience in teaching, research, and practice in transportation geotechnics, geosynthetics, transportation, and geotechnical engineering. Dr. Kumar has delivered several keynotes, invited lectures, and authored over 45 research publications. Additionally, Dr. Kumar reviews research articles for various journals in the field of geosynthetics, construction materials, pavement, and geotechnical engineering. Dr. Kumar is also an elected member of various organizations including International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), Transportation Research Board (TRB) standing Committee on Geosynthetics: AKG80, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society for Materials and Testing (ASTM), Indian Geotechnical Society, TRB’s Interlayer Subcommittee on Reflective Cracking among others.
Dr. Kumar has received several grants and fellowships from the Govt. of India to pursue postgraduate studies and research in the field of Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering. Recognized for his outstanding contributions, Dr. Kumar has been awarded the prestigious Young International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) Award for his significant contribution to Advancements in the application of geosynthetics as asphalt reinforcements.
