The audience will learn about the latest tools and techniques for corridor development, ways to defuse controversy and opposition, and how to communicate planning and engineering concepts to a lay audience for successful project delivery. Participants will also better understand how thoughtful and innovative public outreach was instrumental throughout the planning process. The audience interested in Moving People Forward will learn about innovative public outreach techniques including bus tours, online surveys and map-based tools, focus group meetings, one-on-one interviews, and HoloLens 3D immersive mixed reality visualizations. Also discussed will be the importance of providing transparent and easily understandable information to the public. The presentation shows how Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is at the forefront of corridor development through close coordination between the districts and headquarters with a focus on improving the multimodal planning functions of the DOT. These techniques are easily adaptable to rural and urban corridors.
